Onebag V3 2023
Updated on 2023.12.31
In 2021, I was inspired to get rid of most of my personal possessions and attempt live out of a backpack for the foreseeable future. Below is a list of the main possessions that I use on a daily basis. I plan to keep the number of things that I own within the confines of my bag regardless of my location. This will help me be more intentional about the things that I own or want to purchase in the future.I update this page every year noting the things that have changed and the things that have stayed the same. This also helps me focus on the important parts of my life.
Containers
Tom Bihn Synik 30: Returning to the Tom Bihn ecosystem. I am still sold on the convenience and speed of the external pockets. It is much faster accessing things on the go and it cuts down on the need for additional pouches. Plus I can access most essentials without the bag leaving my shoulder which is a plus.
Goruck Shadow Pocket: This is for toiletries. It's smaller, more lightweight than last year's Goruck Wire Dopp.
Machines
2018 Macbook Pro 15 inch: Still using this computer. The only problem I've ran into is that the keyboard is double printing some letters. I'm really curious about the spec bump of Apple's M1 processor. I might be looking to upgrade it soon.
Ipad Pro 11-inch 3rd Gen: Extremely excited to get this. Got it as a gift and I love it so far. Great for note-taking and drawing as well as content consuming. Love using it as an external monitor when needed.
Iphone 13 Mini: Still using the Iphone 13 mini. It's working really well still. Just wish it had a longer battery life.
Apple Magic Keyboard V2: Really like this keyboard still I use it with my laptop stand to have a more elevated setup. Since the keyboard on my macbook is malfunctioning, this has really helped this year.
Logitech G305 Wireless Mouse: Bought a replacement for my my G305 that broke 2 years ago. Still love this mouse for its portability and its ability to run off of a single AA battery.
VRURC 10000mAh Portable Charger: Received as a gift last year. Has built in USB-C, Micro USB, and lightning cables for charging. Has come in handy many times since my iPhone 13 mini has a limited battery life. Also can plug directly into the wall to charge which is a neat feature.
WD Passport External Hard Drive 1TB: This thing is old. I'm really worried that it is going to stop working so It is definitely due for an upgrade.
Roost Laptop Stand V1: Not a machine but it is by far the item that has sparked the most questions when working in public. Still works like a champ. Might try the V3 to see if it fits my needs better.
Garments
Department Store Hoodie: Got this a while when I was shopping and it has held up great. I wish that the material was thinner which would make it more versatile and packable. Does the job though.
Jockey Men's V-Neck T-Shirt: These shirts are a replacement for the Gildan V-Neck T-Shirts. They are much more breathable and stretchy. Waiting to see how they hold up. I'm always on the lookout for a better T-Shirt.
Darn Tough Socks: The ankle version. These are hands down the best socks that I have ever used. I'm really hard on footwear and these things take daily abuse with ease.
Jockey Boxer Briefs: Love the spandex material in these. Been using this style for many years. I'm picky about underwear so not sure what will knock these off the list.
GINGTTO Men's Skinny Stretch Jeans Slim Fit: I'm a big fan of skinny jeans. The super stretchy kind. I hate feeling restricted by clothing. These are decent jeans but the only problem with them is that I have to replace them every 6 months due to a hole forming in the groin area. Still searching for a more durable pair.
Baeleaf 5” Workout Shorts: Use these for exercise. Have enough to last a week's worth of workouts. Very lightweight and breathable.
JCrew Navy Board Shorts: Still using these as my swimsuit. Love the stretch in them. They are barely pretty worn out now so looking for a replacement.
THENX Workout Pants: Very nice joggers to wear lounging around. Looking for a thinner pair.
New Balance Minimus Shoes: Still using the same pair from 2019. Love these shoes. They're lightweight and durable. I hope they last another year as I think they're discontinued.
Toiletries
Oral B Electric Toothbrush: My Quip finally died on me so I had too replace it with this one. I like the physical buttons on this one vs the buttons on the quip.
Old Spice Deodorant: Don't have Aqua Reef in travel size.
Hair Gel: Göt2b
Crest 3D Whitening Toothpaste: I find that I like using the same scent of toothpaste for a long time.
Tongue Scraper: The absolute best cure for bad breath.
Contacts: For vision.
Floss Picks: Makes daily flossing a breeze.
Unclassified
Ray Ban Classic Tortoise: Love the polarized glass sepia lenses. I've had these for a long time.
Surefire Sidekick: Great Keychain light. Always have it on me. I only use this now since having 2 flashlights is overkill.
Victorinox Swisstool Spirit MX Clip: Switched this out from my previous version for the clip and one hand opening blade. Obviously, I can't travel with this but it has been a lifesaver for random things when I'm at my home base. I wish Victorinox would make a TSA friendly version.
Bic Ballpoint pen: Cheap and easy to replace since I lost my Fisher Space pen.
Department Store Travel Umbrella: Been handy to have at times. Better than a rain coat.
Deleted
Gymnastic Rings: Although versatile they ended up taking up too much space. I just use the closest gym or do bodyweight exercises when a gyms is unavailable.
Thursday Boots Chelsea Boots: I love the clean look of Chelsea Boots. The only problem is that they're not exactly a good shoe for a minimalist. So I decided that I no longer needed them due to space constraints. I would love to buy or design a lightweight zero drop version in the future.
Goruck Wire Dopp: No longer needed.
Goruck Packing cubes: No longer needed.
Goruck Field Pocket: No longer needed.
Surefire EDCL-1T Flashlight: Wasn't used as frequent as I thought it would be.
Batteries: No longer needed.
Fisher Space pen: Well, I lost it. I just use a cheap pen instead.
